Client: Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
Duration: 4 Months
Location: London, SE19
Clifford Devlin delivered a programme of specialist remedial works at Bowley Close Rehabilitation Centre, London SE19, supporting the continued maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency of the healthcare facility. The works comprised external drainage improvements, electrical fault rectification within live operational areas, and the widening of existing external fire escape routes. This included the construction of new retaining walls and the relaying of approximately 100m² of access/disabled/fire route paving slabs to eliminate trip hazards and improve accessibility.
As part of the drainage improvement works, the team resolved ongoing ponding issues affecting a wheelchair-accessible fire escape route adjacent to the building. The solution involved excavating a new trench along the affected area, removing existing concrete and hardcore materials, and installing a pea shingle French drain system to enhance surface water management and provide a long-term drainage solution.
In a separate package of works, Clifford Devlin carried out detailed investigation and repair works relating to an electrical fault identified within the workshop corridor. Through comprehensive fault-finding, the team discovered an incorrectly wired external lighting installation that had caused a hazardous back-feed condition between separate electrical circuits. The fault was safely isolated, the wiring configuration corrected, and the installation fully tested to verify safe and compliant operation upon completion.
All works were carefully planned and executed within a live healthcare environment, in full compliance with current health and safety legislation and NHS site requirements.
