Clifford Devlin were appointed by a London Borough Council to undertake specialist asbestos remediation following a domestic fire at a residential block in West London.
The incident affected two properties, leaving one with significant smoke damage and the other extensively damaged by fire. Asbestos-containing materials had also been damaged, requiring a carefully controlled removal operation. Residents were relocated to temporary accommodation while the necessary remediation works were planned and undertaken.
Our team promptly assessed the site, reviewed the scope and coordinated a programme of works in close collaboration with the client, its stakeholders and affected residents.
Undertaken under a 14-day HSE notification, the works included the removal of fire-damaged asbestos insulation board and contaminated contents from the most severely affected property. An initial pre-clean prepared the property for the installation of a fully sealed enclosure, which was maintained under negative pressure to control the spread of asbestos fibres during removal.
Contaminated contents and asbestos waste were carefully double-bagged or securely wrapped for disposal, with air monitoring undertaken throughout to support the safe management of the removal operation.
To facilitate delivery, Clifford Devlin established a temporary site compound with decontamination, welfare and waste facilities, together with temporary electrical power. Our established supply chain enabled us to coordinate specialist resources, equipment and facilities efficiently, while maintaining close communication with the client and its stakeholders.
Despite the challenging fire-damaged environment and demanding timescales, the remediation works were completed within 10 days. The project demonstrated Clifford Devlin’s ability to respond promptly to emergency situations and deliver specialist asbestos remediation through effective planning, controlled working procedures and clear stakeholder communication.
