Duration: Ongoing

Location: London SE1

Works are now underway at the North Wing entrance of St Thomas’ Hospital, Lambeth, focused on the area surrounding the historic statue of Sir Robert Clayton. The programme includes the erection of a full access scaffold around the statue to enable safe and controlled brick wall rebuilding and localised fabric repairs behind and around the monument.

The works comprise targeted roof and waterproofing interventions, together with masonry and brick repairs to the adjacent wall structure. Protective measures have been put in place to safeguard the early 18th-century statue by master sculptor Grinling Gibbons while access and repair operations are carried out.

The project demonstrates a careful balance between essential building repairs and sensitive heritage protection, ensuring the surrounding historic fabric and artwork are preserved throughout the works.
