Clifford Devlin were awarded a soft strip and RAAC (reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete) roof removal project at the historic Tower Bridge estate in London. The project was secured through our long-standing relationship with a valued repeat client and delivered within a live, highly sensitive environment where safety, precision, and careful coordination were essential.

Our scope included targeted internal soft strip works and the specialist removal of RAAC roof structures across designated roof and gallery areas. Because RAAC requires controlled, sequenced dismantling, the works were carried out under detailed engineered methodologies and permit controls. Access systems, exclusion zones, and service isolations were established before demolition began, ensuring safe separation from building occupants and surrounding operations.

RAAC panels were exposed by removing roof finishes and then dismantled in sequence using a combination of scaffold access, MEWPs, and specialist lifting equipment. Panels and supporting elements were carefully broken out, lifted, and reduced where necessary to suit handling and removal constraints. Noise, dust, and vibration were tightly managed through low-impact techniques, suppression measures, and continuous supervision.

Waste removal and logistics were planned around restricted access and live site conditions, with timed vehicle movements and controlled internal transfer routes. The project was completed safely and efficiently, demonstrating Clifford Devlin’s capability in delivering complex soft strip and structural roof removal works in high-profile, operational environments.
