The scope of work at Victoria House was extensive, encompassing a range of works. Initial phases involved soft strip, demolition, and intricate structural alterations, which necessitated the implementation of temporary works to ensure building stability throughout the process.
A particularly challenging aspect was the removal of large, heavy safes located in the basement. This delicate operation was executed using a specialized gantry hoist, demonstrating careful planning and execution to avoid damage to the historic structure.
Following these foundational changes, new flooring was installed to achieve consistent levels across the refurbished areas, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. Stonework was undertaken to restore and enhance structural openings, meticulously matching existing historical details to maintain the building's original character. Furthermore, essential drainage works were carried out to upgrade the building's infrastructure, ensuring long-term operational efficiency.
A key challenge of this project was the requirement to operate within a live environment, as two levels of Victoria House remained occupied throughout the duration of the works. To mitigate disruption to occupants, stringent protocols were implemented.
These included comprehensive dust suppression techniques to maintain air quality and minimize particulate spread, and rigorous noise control measures to reduce disturbance.
The project team adhered strictly to these protocols, demonstrating a commitment to minimizing the impact on the building's occupants and ensuring a safe and comfortable working and living environment. Throughout all phases of the refurbishment, paramount importance was placed on preserving the heritage of Victoria House.
